After a couple of days meandering around the streets of Bangkok, I was more than ready to fly south for some downtime in one of Thailand’s many beautiful islands. Krabi is situated on southern Thailand’s west coast and is home to towering limestone cliffs, dense mangrove forests and more than a dozen offshore islands.
It was a quick hour flight from Bangkok to Krabi and only half an hour drive from Krabi’s airport to Ao Nang Cliff Beach resort aka my next home away from home for the following 4 nights. From the exterior I couldn’t see much of the hotel apart from the reception area but what was revealed once I got off the elevator was truly amazing. If you couldn’t tell from the name, Ao Nang Cliff Beach Resort is situated up in the cliff of Ao Nang Beach and let me tell you… the views are incredible!
This hotel is located in the middle of Ao Nang’s main beach strip however because it is situated high on top of the cliff you don’t get all of the noise that comes with such a central location. The streets are filled with local merchants selling basically anything you can think of from clothing to sunglasses and of course some delicious local Thai cuisine, but if you’re not a fan of trying new food there’s also a Starbucks, and McDonalds located next to the hotel. (I say go with the Thai food!)
The rooms at Ao Nang Cliff Beach Resort are only part of the experience. If you’re planning on staying for a couple of nights, be sure to upgrade to a room with ocean views. I stayed in the hotel’s Ocean View room which basically made me speechless upon entry. The first thing you notice is the incredible panoramic view of the ocean. And if that wasn’t enough, as soon as I stepped out onto the balcony I saw a massive tub- total bonus and something I highly recommend for a perfect evening drink as you watch the sun set into the ocean (sounds like something out of a fairy tale, I know…fancy stuff)
If you’re not the one to dish out a few extra bucks for an incredible view there is also the Superior Room and Deluxe Room which are just as spacious, inviting and include views of the immense limestone mountain, or private garden.
During my stay I had the pleasure of dining in the private dinner hall. This place is stunning, you are surrounded by floor to ceiling glass walls that look out onto the limestone cliffs. The chef prepared us a delicious 3 course meal, all which was mouthwatering to say the least. I can highly recommend the coconut chicken soup (delicious!!!) There are also buffet bbq dinners in the lobby every night – If you’re a seafood lover, this will be the place for you.
If all that delicious food has you feeling stuffed, there is a gymnasium at the Ao Nang Cliff Beach Resort. But if you’re like me and prefer to have cocktails by the pool you’ll be happy to know the cocktails here are amazing. And once you have sipped on a few of those the spa is a definite must! I had the hot stone massage a couple of times – too good to miss out on.
